Where is it on the map?

The Kansas Speedway is "right across the street" from CommunityAmerica Ballpark

Look for the I-435/I-70 interchange. This is the most obvious location on the map. On city maps of the Kansas City area, I-435 is usually the "left edge" of the map since it's the outermost bypass of the downtown areas. Some maps may show the Kansas Speedway which is the most obvious landmark in the area.

What landmarks should I look for?

As mentioned above, Kansas Speedway is the main landmark you'll see. In fact, if you're unlucky, you'll know about it because there is a lot of traffic from race fans going or leaving the track. The speedway is a huge complex taking up much of the land between I-70 and State Ave.

As you approach it heading west you can look into the huge, main grandstand. On race days you can hear the roar of the cars (or trucks) on the track. You'll also likely see large numbers of recreational vehicles parked all around on the grass which makes up the parking for the speedway.

Other useful landmarks are the two huge stores on the west side of I-435. Near the State Ave. exits is a massive Cabela's sporting goods store. Closer to the Parallel Parkway exit is an enormous Nebraska Furniture Mart. Both of these are visible from the freeway and are east of the ballpark.

In 2003, there was very little else around, except for streets and lights for the major development on the way for the area. By the time of the 2004 season some of the vacant lots were "occupied." Including the Sonic Drive-In across the street from the right field and service entrance.

What you should bring with you?

Sunscreen is highly reccommended when going to CommunityAmerica Park. As one of the most southerly, it is usually quite warm. Many season ticket holders with seats on the first base line, take their seats about the time of the first pitch because of the strong sun of the prairies.
