Spare Time: What to do between games in Fargo...
AKA J.J.'s Bistro
AKA Shooting Star
Restaurants
Highly recommended was the Great Northern Restaurant & Brewery. It was a great restaurant / brewpub in a remodeled train depot along active tracks. It was also the source of RedHawks Red Ale (found at the ballpark). Unfortunately my favorite watering hole went belly up in fall '97 and again in '99, and 2000. The later incarnations being JJ's Bistro (after J.J. Hill, rail tycoon and owner of the Great Northern Railway) and Shooting Star (casino).
The Old Broadway Brewpub (the first in Fargo; 22 Broadway 701.227.1241) is an excellent choice for a meal. A good assortment of entrees in a fun "antique" atmosphere.
Getting to Downtown Fargo (to OB from I-29):
- Take Main Ave. exit downtown
- Drive through the numerous traffic lights the 3 miles into town
- Turn left (north) on Broadway
- Old Broadway is on the left, at on the SW corner of Broadway & 2nd Ave (?)
- Continue on Broadway three more blocks
- Great Northern is on the right
For those staying away from downtown there are numerous chain restaurants along I-29 and near the ballpark. One recommendation is Grandma's.
