Where is it on the map?
Foothills Stadium offices, stadium and staff parking lot
Odds are you won't find Foothills Stadium on the map at all. In spite of being 40 years old it's more or less "invisible" on maps. What you will find is the University of Calgary campus which is just to the north of the ballpark but not accessble. Local maps will likely show you McMahon Stadium which is the home of the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL as well as the UofC team.
What landmarks should I look for?
McMahon Stadium with its tall red towers
Pedestrian Bridge over Crowchild Trail (looking south towards downtown)
The main landmark to look for is McMahon Stadium home of the Stampeders. Besides being the dominant stadium in the complex (which includes Foothills Stadium, a Little League ballpark and volleyball courts) it has tall red towers based upon the shape of oil derricks. These can be seen for miles (including downtown if as you approach and possibly Calgary Tower).
Closer to the stadiums there is a pedestrian bridge over Crowchild Trail. Like the football stadium, it has single blue derrick- like tower
What you should bring with you?
Any night in Calgary has the potential to be cool or chilly. The proximity to the Canadian Rockies and the northerly location make a jacket or light coat something useful to have with you. This is particularly appropriate for games early or late in the season.

The sun is a major factor to consider when going to the Snake Pit. Sunglasses., unless it's cloudy are highly recommended. The sun sets late in Calgary and most seats face into the setting sun.
Sunscreen is also strongly recommended for day games. As mentioned on the ticket page, shade is a rare commodity and even with a jacket on you should protect your face and arms.
