Spare Time: What to do between games in Madison...

Restaurants

• There are numerous chain restaurants on East Washington to choose from
• Downtown has the college town offerings near campus
• There is little near the ballpark

Sites & Attractions

Due to the long drive from Portage (in '96), a long lunch to beat the heat (and late sleep) there was only time to take a trip around Mendota Lake including a break at the beach. But there is much more to do than that:

• Visit the State Capitol
• Check out the farmer's market Saturday mornings
• See the Unitarian Church designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (free)
• State Street is a must for food & shopping
• Take in the view of the lake from the Union Terrace

Lodging

Can be tricky during Badger State Games!

Inconvenient to the downtown, but better for the baseball fan are the many newer hotels near the Washington exit off I-90/94. Other accommodations can be found off the other exits or downtown near the U of W campus, particularly State St.

In '96, I got shut out of town due to the summer Badger State Games and other activities.It made for a 33 mile trip down I-90/94 from Portage.

Opening Day '99 was easy with no trouble finding a room (off Washington). Reservations are recommended,just in case you trip is over some event.
